The Month of May Says to Immerse Yourself in It

In my early teens, I began practicing yoga from an article I found in my mom’s fitness magazine.

I was already into dance and movement, but something about these poses felt like a remembering . . .

Then I went to an Iyengar Yoga class at my mom’s gym. [Anyone else remember when yoga classes had no music?]

I got a yoga video on VHS and practiced it throughout high school and college.

In adulthood, I’d pop in and out of classes when time allowed in NYC and while travelling. The best was practicing with family and friends. And prenatal yoga definitely helped throughout an epic childbirth experience.

But it wasn’t until recently that I received a clear call that it was time to really immerse myself in the essence of this rich practice.

So now, 35-ish years later, I’ve been delving into a yoga teacher training program that arrived just in time to (re)open my heart, body, and mind.

Each day of this journey, I’m continually awe of my brilliant teachers and delighted by my compassionate classmates.

And I’m loving all of the reading.

And what about you?

What’s calling you into immersion right now?

In a culture that tends to elevate the superficial, where are you being nudged to go deep?

This world needs us to go deep.

And the month of May is asking you to immerse yourself in it.

Whatever “it” is can stoke the flickering flames within, cultivating joy and expanding the energy of love.

What are you ready to be immersed in at this moment?

It’s time to go deep.
